'The best investment I made in writing and publishing my picture book was in asking Laura to edit the manuscript."

I am a freelance children's book editor who has worked in the children's book field for almost twenty years. I spent seven years in editorial departments in the United States where I helped to produce winners of the Coretta Scott King Award and American Library Association Notable Book selections, amongst others. I continued to work as a freelance editor in England, where I lived for twelve years until August 2013. I was also a Senior Lecturer at the National Centre for Research in Children's Literature (NCRCL) at Roehampton University in London. Now based in Berkeley, California, I work with clients all over the world.

The main services I offer are:

I currently edit children's books for Nigerian publisher Cassava Republic Press, and have critiqued work by several people who have self-published picture books and fiction – see a selection in the Portfolio section.  For more, please explore the links provided, including testimonials from clients. And feel free to contact me for any reason. The best way to stay updated about upcoming events and read my tips and links is to read my blog and follow me on my Facebook page. You can also find a full list of books I have edited and more about my background on my LinkedIn page. And if you'd like to see me in person, you can watch this video interview taken when I directed the Brighton Children's Book Festival.
