I have long been fascinated with the world of children's literature, from my own avid childhood reading to many years of experience in children's publishing and academia.
I worked for seven years in the children's publishing industry in the United States, helping to produce winners of the Coretta Scott King Award and American Library Association Notable Book selections, amongst others. I worked at Children's Book Press in San Francisco, and was an editor at Lee & Low Books in New York City - both publishers of multicultural picture books. I then completed an MA in Children's Literature at Roehampton University in London, and have done postgraduate work in the area of multicultural children's publishing in the UK at the University of Newcastle. I have extensive experience running children's literature conferences and events, which includes being a steering committee member for the Diversity Matters: Growing Markets in Children's Publishing conference, sponsored by Arts Council England and Festival Director and co-founder of the Brighton Children's Book Festival.
Latest projects include working with Youth Music to edit their Music Start pack; consulting with international NGO FOCUS on developing a disaster relief curriculum; and involvement with a diary project based around eating disorders. To find out more, visit the News section of this site.
