Blogging and babies

Or should that be babies and blogging? To be specific, one baby - the totally darling Cassiopeia who is now about 3 1/2 months old. But having a baby around makes blogging, or doing almost anything that involves brain activity, very difficult. I'm lucky enough to be on maternity leave for six months, so don't go back until the beginning of December. But I have restarted the writing group I run which meets monthly. And I have a few MS critique requests that need doing.

But, I am finding it very difficult to get focused. Since having Cassy and starting to breastfeed, I really do feel like my mind is functioning at a radically diminished capacity. I'd heard this from other friends before, but hadn't quite believed it. I wouldn't change any of this, but it is strange to go through such a personality transformation. I'm used to remembering where I put my keys, or whether or not I've done something.

Ah well, which leads to my lack of posts. I have started to read books to Cassy and she seems half interested some of the time. It's made me think about my earliest memories of reading. I actually found a book that is one of the first I can recall: I Am a Bunny by Richard Scarry.

I must have been pretty little, maybe four or so, and I just remember feeling engulfed in the pictures, like I was inside the images. It was a powerful thing, and I think connects to my lifelong love of books, and especially children's books. I'm hoping Cassy can have the same thing, but of course she'll be her own little person.

Anyone else - do you have really early book memories?
